Reef
Etiquette
Paddy Colwell of Reef Teach in
Queensland, Australia, offers a quick review of reef
etiquette. What he has to say applies equally well for
scuba diving and snorkeling everywhere.
- While you are snorkelling
or diving- please do so slowly. This ensures that
you are more careful and not accidentally bumping
into the amazing marine life. Pay particular attention
to where your fins are. They can do a great deal of
damage to the beautiful coral. Snorkel and dive in
deeper water until you are proficient.
- Unless you are very certain,
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING.
- The only thing that you can
take from the reef is treasured memories, photographs
and the most incredible experience of your life. Everything
else should be left as you found it.
- Divers should be properly
weighted.
